Sandestin's four golf courses, its tennis and pickleball complex, its 226-slip marina on the bay, its pools and fitness facilities, and the shops, galleries, and more than twenty restaurants of the Village of Baytowne Wharf are all within cart range. Just outside the resort's edge, Grand Boulevard adds another cluster of shops, dining, and a cinema. A day here might begin with a swim off the private boardwalk and end with dinner and live music at Baytowne - resort living reached from a residential address on the sand.

Southwinds sits just off Emerald Coast Parkway (U.S. 98), which runs the length of the corridor and connects the resort to Destin a few minutes west and to the 30A beach towns to the east. Inside the gates, the resort's carts, bikes, and shuttles handle most short trips, so residents can reach the beach, the marina, and Baytowne without a car. Destin Executive Airport is close by, and Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport near Panama City provides commercial service within a reasonable drive.
