Okaloosa Island

Okaloosa Island is the beach corridor between Fort Walton Beach and Destin, set on Santa Rosa Island with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and Santa Rosa Sound on the other. It is quieter and more linear than Destin's harbor core, but still has a recognizable visitor center around the Boardwalk, the fishing pier, Gulf-front restaurants, and public beach access.

The developed stretch follows Santa Rosa Boulevard and Miracle Strip Parkway, with resorts and condos facing the Gulf and sound-side pockets looking back toward Fort Walton Beach. The eastern end transitions toward Eglin land and East Pass, while the western side reconnects to the Fort Walton Beach mainland.

The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island is the public-facing landmark most visitors recognize: dining, beach access, events, and the pier all cluster nearby. The island also has numbered public beach accesses along Santa Rosa Boulevard, so the experience is not limited to one central entry point.

For housing research, Okaloosa Island is mostly about Gulf-front and near-beach condo living rather than a grid of inland neighborhoods. Its appeal is direct beach orientation, a simpler resort corridor, and quick access back to Fort Walton Beach services, Destin, and the bridges on either side.

Okaloosa Island is an area record, not a single venue or legal subdivision. Public access points, pier rules, parking, and beach conditions can change, so operational details should be checked with the county, tourism bureau, or venue before a visit.
